Building your Dream Transportation Electrification Team

As we outlined previously, one of the most important early steps in the creation of an EV program is the development of a strategic plan. Something that should be considered simultaneously is the creation of your transportation electrification team. Your county, city or utility will see the most success by taking an early look at where your organization can leverage current internal resources and leadership, and where you will need to support your efforts with additional staff as you grow.

If you are not yet ready to or are in the process of creating a dedicated team, there are several ways you can utilize your current workforce or outsource to support your growth. For example, you can choose a lead point of contact for EV infrastructure customers who can take on this part-time position in addition to their current workload, create a full-time EV program manager position that will help streamline cross-department communication and efforts, or contract out the management of EV program activities like site walks, installations, sign-ups and tracking customer progress.

As you prepare to build your team, the resources available to you will define what you will need to add. Take a look at the departments in your organization and break down how they are involved in the EV charging programs and what areas would you need the most team members. According to SEPA’s Utility Best Practices for EV Infrastructure Deployment there are many different ways to successfully build a team to manage EV infrastructure projects from a two member team with a Manager and Education Outreach Manager working cross-functionally and managing projects within an organization to larger teams employing the above in addition to specialized experts in qualifying departments to focus on specific higher level implementation of the strategy.

No matter if your operation has the capabilities to employ two or twenty dedicated team members, S Curve Strategies can help you build the framework to attract your dream transportation electrification team. If you would like to discuss how we can provide our expertise, please contact us here.
